In October of 2007, the Town of Sutton closed the sale on the purchase of the 133 acre Shaw Farm located on Shaw Lane off of Putnam Hill Road. The purchase of the Shaw Farm for $4.5 million dollars was completed after a lengthy process involving a Proposition 2 ½ debt exclusion vote at Town meeting and the Town election in May 2007.
The Town is in the process of planning a flyover of the property in the spring of 2009 to create base maps of the entire property along with topographical and wetland surveys. These maps will be used in the planning process to determine appropriate locations for various uses of the land. Our goal continues to be the careful and thoughtful planning of this important Town resource that will benefit both current and future generations of Sutton residents.
In the meantime, you may see the Sutton High School Cross Country team members running through the fields and using the property to train.
