February 3, 2011 - The building project is moving along on schedule and on budget. We are currently looking for a new member to complete the Committee. If you are interested please contact the office of the Town Manager, James Smith.  In April we will begin building the foundations for the modular classrooms. These modulars are being built to ourspecifications and they will include their own HVAC systems, restrooms, security, technology and electrical and telephone wiring.  The middle school students will move into these modulars atthe beginning of the 2011 / 2012 school year. They will remain there untilJanuary 2013. At that time the middle school will be complete and ready foroccupancy. The modulars will then house the high school students into the 2013/ 2014 school year.

The School Building Committee meets the first Wednesday ofevery month. We strongly encourage members of the community to attend themeetings, or alternatively, to view the meetings on local cable networks. Thesemeetings will provide extensive information on the building timelines, budgets,and all other information relative to this extensive project. Please forwardany questions to Wendy Mead, Committee Chair, at wendymeadpc@verizon.net .

The original School Building Needs Committee was established (Article 5) at the Town Meeting in May 2003 to evaluate the building needs of the Sutton Public School District. More recently, the Committee was reorganized and increased in size to 13 members who have diligently worked on the following functions:

  • providing information to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA);
  • hiring the (Owner’s Project Manager) OPM and architect;
  • holding regular meetings with the MSBA and OPM throughout the process;
  • keeping the community informed of the project status;
  • and acting as an intermediary between the MSBA, the hired professionals and the Owner (the town).
The Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) is dedicated to assisting municipalities with the design, construction, renovation and repair of the Commonwealth's public schools.  Through its grant program, the MSBA works with local communities to identify school facility needs, develop fiscally responsible and educationally appropriate solutions, and create safe, sound, and sustainable learning environments.

The School Building Committee will continue to work with the Community of Sutton and the MSBA to move this project forward in the most time and cost effective way possible. We invite your involvement at our meetings.
