The Town of Sutton took over the electric bill for the Rufus Putnam Museum from the Sutton Historic Society due to the charging station.
According to Town Administrator Jim Smith, the Historic Society typically had an electric bill of $10- $20 per month. Since the town installed the charging station, which is a free, public utility, in accordance with the Department of Environmental Protection, the bill has gone up to $200 per month.
“The town town-owned electric vehicles charge versus using gasoline,” Smith said. “A number of residents have used these charging stations.”
The town plans to put stencils on the pavement in the spring that signifies spots for electric vehicles.
