Sutton and Millbury awarded state solarization grant
BY TOM REILLY
Jim Smith, Sutton’s Town Administrator, told the Sutton Board of Selectmen that the town has received the solarization grant, one of 17 Massachusetts communities so designated. Smith noted that Sutton’s application was made jointly with Millbury. He noted that there were a total of 30 applicants. Smith said he had already spoken with Millbury town manager Bob Spain who is very excited about the project. He said the town is currently waiting for the RFP from the state that will choose the solar provider for the project.
Smith said the solar fair has been moved to Saturday, June 9 at 9 a.m. and the main focus will be on having the solar provider as the keynote speaker. He said there will also be a presenter on solar thermal projects and hopefully someone on geothermal as one. He said that Millbury residents will also be invited. He said he has already received 25 inquiries on the town’s website, all without much publicity. He thought that with Millbury and Sutton working together “it’s going to be a great summer for solar panels.”
