Sutton Selectmen grant Wireless Edge one year extension
BY TOM REILLY
Sutton Town Administrator Jim Smith asked the Sutton Selectmen to grant a 12 month extension to Wireless Edge, the communications firm the town contracted with last August to build a public safety tower on Town Farm Road. He said that at the time the company had an agreement with Verizon Wireless to erect the tower and install a communications carrier on it, but then Verizon announced in May that it would not be building any additional towers this year.
The town administrator said the company told him that they still like the site and hope to have one or two carriers for the tower shortly, but because he doesn’t have one now, he is asking for another year to secure one. Smith said that if the town does not do this, it would have to go out to bid again, something that would take at least four months.
The selectmen agreed that while this was disappointing, Smith had worked hard on this and that Wireless Edge should be given a little longer to try and make this work. The selectmen then voted to grant a one year extension.
