Blackstone Valley Tech Students Build Pavilon at Marion's Camp

Valley Tech students build pavilion in Sutton

UPTON — Each year, Valley Tech works to expand the learning environments of the students while also providing valuable cost savings for each of its 13 member communities.

One such project currently in progress is the building of a pavilion on the grounds of Marion’s Camp on Lake Singletary in Sutton. Drafting students prepared the plans for the project, Construction Technology students are building the main structure, and the Manufacturing Technology/Welding students are engineering decorative supports that will also provide stability to the structure.

Valley Tech requires that all outside projects of this nature provide learning experiences pertinent to the curriculum, be safe environments for the students, and not displace jobs available to local business and industry. The school is selective in the process to be sure that all towns can take advantage of the skills of the students through community projects of this nature.

Sutton Building Commissioner John Couture, commented, “This is a valuable learning experience for the students of Valley Tech, offering real-world construction lessons. It also allows the Town of Sutton to complete the project at about half the cost of a project of this nature would normally cost.”

When complete, the pavilion will be used to host picnics, concerts, and other events in a fresh air environment providing a valuable resource to the town.
