Sutton Town Administrator Jim Smith announced at a rescheduled meeting of the Sutton Board of Selectmen that Western Surety, the company that holds the bond for the project, has selected G&R Construction of Quincy, Massachusetts as the general contractor for the Sutton Middle School/High School Building project.
G&R Construction, one of the four firms that Smith had categorized as the most appropriate to compete the project, was chosen over two other "good" firms--Fontaine Brothers and Braite Builders.
The town administrator said that G&R is a "reputable" firm that has been in business for over fifty years. Started by the Morel brothers in 1962, the business is now run by the founders' children.
Some of G&R's projects include the Groton Dunstable Middle School, the Needham Town Hall restoration, and the Needham Public Library. Pictures are available at http://grconstruction.net/.
The selectmen still need to sign an agreement with G&R, something that Smith said could happen as soon as the Board's January 7 meeting, although he admitted that this was a tight deadline. He said that an extra meeting might be called in order to get the agreement done as quickly as possible.
Smith added that under the agreement that G&R will be responsible for the entire project including work that was not completed by the TLT, the original and ultimately terminated general contractor. He also said that G&R is "ready to go," meaning that once the agreement is signed that the work can begin again in earnest.
