Smith said the town has received an upgrade of its ISO rating thanks to additional training. He congratulated the fire department and the police department including its dispatchers. He said the rating has improved from 5/9 to 4/4X, a significant improvement, said Smith. He said this should result in lower insurance rates for homeowners. Selectman Michael Chizy said anything that reduced the burden on homeowners was a good thing. Selectman David Hall said he had spoken with Fire Chief Matt Belsito about this and this rating change was not something routinely done. Hall said Belsito had sought out the agency once he felt that the town’s fire prevention had improved to where it merited this increase.
He said that the report had allowed him to look at some of the changes that had taken place in not just the fire department but in the town as well. Selectman and former fire chief Paul Maynard agreed, noting it was a 300-page report. He asked Smith to post the ISO letter to the town’s website. Stuart praised the department heads and the Planning Board for getting this done and the benefit it was to the entire town. He praised Smith’s leadership in this area.
