Annual Election OKs police station

Similar to Spring Town Meeting, voters during Annual Town Election on Tuesday, May 23, voiced support for its Police Department.
With a 579-243 vote, residents said yes to borrowing $8.7 million for a new police station to be located at the old Blue Jay Restaurant site on Central Turnpike.
“We’re all thrilled, literally,” Police Chief Dennis Towle said. “There’s obviously a lot of work ahead of us but we accept it with eagerness.”
According to town documents, the new station will be 12,500 square feet and construction is expected to begin in the late summer or early fall.
The current headquarters, built in 1983 and located in Town Center, is less than 2,000 square feet.
At Fall Town Meeting, Sutton appropriated $500,000 for owners project management services and designer services.
Tecton Architects, a multi-specialist architectural, interior design, and master planning firm with for more than 35 years of service, was hired earlier this year to design the station.
Towle said it’s possible the new station will be ready within a year.
