American Legion Park Renovation!
The Town of Sutton is undertaking the renovation of American Legion Park (aka Veteran's Park) in the Village of Manchaug. Renovations are slated to include installation of outfield fencing for the softball field, new fencing around the entire basketball court, picnic tables, historic and environmental signage, shaded picnic tables, new pervious parking and a brand new playground area for children of all ages!
Total project cost is approximately $435,000. The Town has applied for and has received the maximum grant of $217,454 from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) which is Federal Funding administered through the State Division of Conservation Services (DCS). Town Meeting voted to appropriate $10,000 in start up money in 2017 when the Town took title to the Park from the American Legion. In 2021 Town Meeting voted to roll over conserved funds from the Unity Park renovations in Wilkinsonville to this Park project, and in 2022 as required by the Grant process, Town Meeting voted additional funds to cover the entire project cost if need be. Our hope is that the community will support this renovation as they supported the Unity Park renovations allowing funds offset by donations largely solicited by Sutton Recreation Resources (SRR) to roll over to the next park and recreation project.
Sutton Recreational Resources is a group of dedicated Sutton parents, grandparents, and interested citizens who want to improve recreational and open spaces throughout Sutton for current and future generations. The fund raising work of SRR along with the generosity of area businesses and residents allowed us to roll over $170,000 from the Unity Park project to the American Legion Park project!!!
