Town of Sutton Residential Open Burning Season 2019
Opening burning in Sutton will begin on January 15th, 2019 and end May 1st, 2019. Permits may be obtained from the Sutton Fire Department, 4 Uxbridge Road, beginning on Sunday, January 15, 2019. Permits fee is $ 10.00 and will be available for purchase on the following days and times:
Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday, Sundays & Holidays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The following regulations are required to be followed based upon the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Fire Regulations and the State Department of Environmental Protection 310 CMR 7.07. Failure to comply with these regulations will void your permit application for the remainder of the burning season.
1. Burning will only be allowed during times set forth by the State Department of Environmental Management. No permits will be issued or authorized on rainy days or when poor atmospheric ventilation conditions exist.
2. Fires cannot start before 10 a.m. and must be extinguished completely by 4 p.m. on days when burning is allowed by the state.
3. Only brush, cane, driftwood and other forestry debris may be burned.
4. The following materials are not allowed to be burned at any time: Grass, leaves, hay, whole
trees, stumps, trash, building materials, and garbage. No exceptions!!
5. Only materials, which are generated on the site, can be burned with a permit on the site.
Vegetation cannot be brought into a site to be burned. No commercial land clearing operations will be allowed.
6. Burning cannot take place within 75 feet of a dwelling.
7. A garden hose with water pressure or water buckets must be at each site capable of extinguishing the fire.
As required by the Opening Burning Law, from time to time a local or state fire official may
stop by at a permitted fire for inspection purposes; we want everyone to have a safe burning season.
