FYI logo

The Town of Sutton would like to remind residents and visitors of temporary road closures, parking impacts, and anticipated traffic delays associated with the upcoming Sutton's Spirit of 250 Celebration on Saturday, June 27, 2026. The event is being organized and hosted by The Sutton Fourth Committee, a  a 501(c)(3) organization, in recognition of America's 250th birthday and Sutton's participation in the nationwide semi quincentennial celebration.

If you missed it, Sutton Fourth Committee members April Eaton Brown and Thomas Fournier attended the June 2, 2026 Select Board meeting to update the Select Board on the upcoming Sutton Fourth Event and Fireworks to be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026. You can watch to watch the discussion HERE (begins at 0:32:33).

Officials expect large crowds throughout the day and encourage residents to plan travel accordingly, allow extra time when traveling through the center of town, and consider alternate routes during parade hours.

Parade Route and Road Closures:
The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Sutton Center and proceed along Boston Road to the Sutton Schools Complex. To ensure the safety of participants and spectators, several roads along the parade route will be temporarily closed.

The following closures are anticipated:

  • Uxbridge Road from Bond Hollow Road to Boston Road beginning at approximately 8:00 a.m. for parade staging.
  • Putnam Hill Road from Boston Road to the entrance of the Sutton High School parking lot beginning at approximately 9:30 a.m.
  • Boston Road from Sutton Center to Hutchinson Road beginning at approximately 9:30 a.m.

Roads are expected to reopen at approximately 11:30 a.m., once the parade has safely concluded and participants have cleared the route. Motorists should anticipate delays in the area and seek alternate routes whenever possible.

Parking Information

Public parking will be available at:

  • Sutton Schools
  • First Congregational Church
  • St. Mark's Church (must vacate by 3PM)

Residents should note that the Early Learning Center parking lot will not be available at the start of the event, as it serves as the parade endpoint and participant unloading area. The lot will be opened to the public later in the day once parade activities have concluded and the area has been cleared.

Because attendance is expected to be significant, organizers are strongly encouraging attendees to carpool whenever possible to help reduce traffic congestion and parking demand.

Accessible Parking

Accessible parking will be available in designated handicap spaces at the church parking areas as well as in a dedicated accessible parking section adjacent to the basketball courts at Sutton High School. Handicap parking signage will be posted to assist visitors.

Fireworks and Evening Traffic

The celebration will conclude with a fireworks display scheduled at dusk (approximately 9:15 p.m.,) weather permitting. Residents should expect increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the Sutton Common area during the evening hours.

Resident Reminder

The Town appreciates the public's patience and cooperation as Sutton welcomes residents and visitors for this historic community celebration. Residents are encouraged to review traffic impacts in advance and plan accordingly for any travel through the center of town on June 27.
